Mr. Charles “Harvey” Harris, 85, of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest Friday, June 9, 2017 at VCU/MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA. Harvey, the first born son of the late Charles and Lucy Scott Harris, was a native of Buffalo Junction, Virginia born August 11, 1931. He was a graduate of West End High School, Clarksville, VA. He served in the United States Marine Corps and received an Honorable Discharge. Harvey continued his education at Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and received his funeral service diploma in 1950. He was taught and given spiritual guidance early during childhood by his parents which led him to commit his life to Christ and become a member of Saint Mark Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA. Harvey was a farmer for many years, laborer at Burlington Industries of Clarksville, VA for eleven years and Correction Officer at Mecklenburg Correctional Center in Boydton for eight years. In 1956, he and Loretta established Harris Funeral Home in Clarksville, VA and in 1991 purchased the former Giles Funeral Home in Chase City, VA renaming it Giles-Harris Funeral Home. In 1972, he obtained his license to own and operate Quality Motors, a used car dealership and he later established Harris Cab Service. Harvey was a member of the Mecklenburg Masonic Lodge #280. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Princess Harris. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of 65 years, Loretta B. Harris of Clarksville, VA; two sons, Charles “Mike” H. Harris III of Fredericksburg, VA and William “Ricky” Harris (Sonya) of Clarksville, VA; one grandson, Damion R. Harris of Henderson, NC and a step-granddaughter, Dominique A. Bullock of Henderson, NC; brother, Solomon A. Harris of Buffalo Junction, VA; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; two brothers-in-law, Marshall and Leon Harris and a vast number of other loving relatives, caring employees and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Charles Harvey Harris will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 12, 2017 at Saint Mark Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Darryl T. Howard, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
