Clairese Reed Smith

Mrs. Clairese Reed Smith, 72, of Chase City, VA, departed this life on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Chase City Health and Rehabilitation Center, Chase City, VA. Mrs. Smith was born in Chase City, VA September 21, 1945 to Mattie Jane Reed and the late John Amos Reed. She was a graduate of West End High School and a faithful member of Greater Union Baptist Church, Chase City, VA. She was a former employee of Dick’s Steak House, and later retired from Burlington Industries in Clarksville, VA. Clairese Reed and the late Thomas Smith were joined in marriage on December 5, 1969. Of this union one son was born. Left to cherish her memories are one son, Earnest Thomas Smith of Chase City, VA; her mother, Mattie Jane Reed of Hampton, VA; two sisters, Mattie Bell Barnes (Howard) of Hampton, VA and Isabelle Reed of Chase City, VA; one brother, Robert Reed of Chase City, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services for Mrs. Clairese Reed Smith will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. Freddie E. Terry, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
