Doris Duke Hester

Mrs. Doris Duke Wilson Hester, 80, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Hester was born in North Carolina on August 8, 1938 to the late Isaac Crute and Lucy Ogburn Crute. She was a 1956 graduate of West End High School, and member of Silone Baptist Church, Chase City, VA. After high school, Mrs. Hester moved to Paterson, NJ where she worked as a dietician for The Manor in Montclair, NJ. She later relocated to Chase City, VA where she worked as a seamstress for Aileen in Victoria, VA, and retired as a dietician from the Mecklenburg County Public Schools. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Hester, Jr.; son, Bernard A. Hester; grandson, Andre High; one brother, Isaac Crute, Jr. and four sisters, Louise, Jeanette, Juliet and Elizabeth. Cherishing her memories are her children, Wanda Hester, Wendolyn Hester and Winifred Dodson (Reginald), Bryan Hester and Byrone Hester; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; three nieces, Elizabeth Jefferson, Vernell Williams and Doris Mayo; a devoted friend she raised as her daughter, Carmen Tucker, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Duke Wilson Hester will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Silone Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Melvin J. Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in Silone Memorial Garden, Chase City, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday, 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
