Mrs. Ernestine Williams Spain, 96, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Chase City Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Spain was born in Chase City, VA May 10, 1921 to the late James Henry, Sr. and Rachel Hardy Williams. She was a 1942 graduate of the historic Thyne Institute, and a member of Concord Baptist Church, Chase City where she served on the choir and as President of the Missionary Society. Mrs. Spain was a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star, Pride of Mecklenburg Chapter #178, serving as Chapter Treasurer for 50 years. She was also a lifetime member of the Mecklenburg Chapter of the NAACP. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spain was preceded in death by her husband, Glanzy M. Spain, Sr.; two children, Vera N. Spain and Michael B. Spain; three sisters, Lorice W. Parson, Ester W. Roberts and Sterling Williams, and two brothers, Cardinal R. Williams and James Henry Williams, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories seven children, Edith Constance Jones (Timothy) and Walter L. Spain (Camille) all of Richmond, VA, Glanzy M. Spain, Jr., (Jean) and Melba Fowlkes (Edward) all of Chase City, VA, Dennis Spain (Janice) of Chesapeake, VA, Faye Watkins (Lee) of Durham, NC, and Yvette S. Neal (Mack) of Lunenburg, VA; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Hortense W. Bouldin of Richmond, VA and Grace W. Boyd of Upper Marlboro, MD; one sister-in-law, Betty Williams, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Ernestine W. Spain will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 30, 2018 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Lawrence T. Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Spain Family Cemetery, Chase City. Public viewing will be held on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
