Helen Jackson Atkins Gibson

Mrs. Helen Jackson Atkins Gibson, 96, of Red Oak, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA. Mrs. Gibson was born in Red Oak, VA September 18, 1921 to the late Herbert and Grace Watkins Atkins. She attended the schools of Charlotte County, VA and was a member of Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church, Chase City, VA. Mrs. Gibson was a World War II Army veteran and a homemaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Robert Gibson, Jr.; children, Rueben Dale Gibson, Daniel Robert Gibson, III, Sheila Saleem, Sheldon Gibson and David Gibson and five siblings. Cherishing her memories are one son, Edward Gibson of New York, NY; one daughter, Rachel Winston of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters; I. Belle Atkins of Red Oak, VA and Venoy Barbour of Babylon, NY; one daughter-in-law, Pamela Gibson of Silver Spring, MD; one sister-in-law, Albena Atkins, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Jackson Atkins Gibson will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Reginald Davis and Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
