Mr. Herman Willard Crawley Jr., 70, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Friday, January 8, 2021 at VCU Hospital, Richmond VA. Mr. Crawley was born on March 25, 1950 to the late Marie L and Herman Willard Crawley, Sr. He received his education in Mecklenburg County Public Schools, and was a member of Silone Baptist Church in Chase City, VA. Prior to moving back to Chase City he was a long-time member of Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church in Asheville, NC. He was employed with Bank of America for a number of years. He was also employed with Lyda Wrecker Service and Towing in Asheville, NC prior to moving to Chase City. Mr. Crawley loved to sing and play his guitar. He was a member of two local gospel groups, “The Gospel Stars” and The Gospel Wheels” both of Asheville, NC. Mr. Crawley also won “Guitarists of the Year” on October 15, 1983, he even has the trophy to prove it. Mr. Crawley loved his family and his extended family very much. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Lee, William Henry and Joe Lewis Crawley, Sr., and a special niece, Zorana “Zondra Adrienne Spencer.” Cherishing his memories are one daughter, Renetta Yvonne Darity (Graig) of Concord, NC; two sons, Herman Willard Crawley III (Annika) of Fletcher, NC, and Milton Edward Crawley (Shaconda) of Asheville, NC; six grandchildren, Graig Denzell Darity, Tyrell Larenz Darity, Kendra Moneigh Crawley, Tyra Shantel Crawley, Akira Tranae Crawley and Brittani Adriana Crawley; two great-grandchildren, Gavyn Denzell Darity and Aerial Jakaria Smith; three brothers, Matthew Crawley (Taunya) of Chase City, VA, Fletcher Crawley of Crewe, VA, and Albert Crawley (Sharon) of Boydton, VA; his former spouse, Debra Anderson of Asheville, NC; two sisters, Minnie Wylie of South Boston, VA and Rebecca Crawley of Chase City, VA; one brother-in-law, Howard Anderson of Asheville, NC; five sisters-in-law, Mary Redfern of Asheville, NC, Georgianna Shivers (Charles), Julia Spencer all of Asheville, NC and Anna Crawley and Dorothy Crawley both of Chase City, VA, and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
