Joyce Yvonne Terry Small

Mrs. Joyce Yvonne Terry Small of Morristown, NJ and formerly of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Mrs. Terry was born on January 26, 1938 to the late John and Pattie Terry in Mecklenburg County, VA. She attended school in Clarksville, VA, graduating from West End High School, at an early age she joined Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Clarksville, VA. She joined Union Baptist Church in 1959, where in the more recent years she enjoyed serving as a Mother of Union Baptist Church. As a young adult she met and married Moses Small, to this union was added two wonderful children. The Small family relocated to Morristown, NJ in 1959, where Mrs. Small lived most of her life. Being very involved in the Community and Civil Rights was a sincere passion of hers; although she was a stay at home Mom until her children became school age. Mrs. Small had been an active member of the Oziel Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Bethsaida Chapter No. 7 of Morristown; whereas she was Worthy Matron during 2008-2009. She was active and volunteering with the Morristown Senior community organization as well as Leader of the 60 Plus Club. She was also a lifetime member of the NAACP. During Mrs. Small’s stay on earth she displayed tremendous strength and character that reached out in all areas including the community; reflecting impeccable leadership and relationships of love, faith and charity. She would always say ‘I love people’. She loved and was loved in return by many young and old. What a great gift we shared, in the life of Joyce Yvonne Terry Small! Joyce Small was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Moses Small, four brothers, and four sisters. Cherishing her memories are one daughter, Debra Majette; one son, Darryl Small (Debra). She also leaves three grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two nephews she and Moses raised from their teen years; Vernon Darden and Frankie Darden; along with her God-son, Tobin Lyon (Belinda) two brothers, John M. Terry (Mary) and Alaster Terry; two sisters, Catherine T. Burwell and Ruth Terry along with her nieces and nephews a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends, especially George & Margaret Kelley. Interment will occur 12:00 Noon, Thursday October 26, 2017 at Mount Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery, Clarksville, VA. Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
