Mr. Lawrence “Pete” Clay, 74, of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Clay was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on May 14, 1945 to the late Watt Clay and Julia Clay. He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA, and was a member of Wharton Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Nelson, VA. Mr. Clay was a dedicated employee of the Town of Clarksville with 30 plus years of service. In addition to his father, Mr. Clay was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Terry Clay; a son, Joe Nathan Terry, and two sisters, Mary Perry and Jeannie Clay. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Annie Clay of Danville, VA; two daughters, Julia Clay of Nelson, VA and Daphane Terry (Tony) of Virgilina, VA; four step-children, Veronica Olivis of Danville, VA, Anderson Jeffries and Tavias Jeffries both of Danville, VA, and Sgt. Tobias Jeffries of Colorado; five grandchildren; his mother, Julia Clay Hargrove of Nelson, VA; three sisters, Julia E. Clay Hamm (Jeff) of San Diego, CA, Ernestine Clay Manning of Clarksville, VA, and Lizzie Clay of Atlanta, GA, four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, best friends, Walter Terry and Marietha Smith of Clarksville, VA, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A funeral service was held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the chapel of C.H. Harris Funeral Home with burial following in Wharton Memorial Garden, Nelson, VA. A public viewing was held on Friday, March 20th from 5:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
