Mrs. Mary Ann Williams Howerton, 84, of Buffalo Junction, VA entered eternal rest on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Howerton was born in Dunn, NC on May 19, 1936 to the late Rev. Shelton Walter and Annie Laurie McLean Williams. She graduated from high school in Asheville, NC in 1954. Mrs. Howerton relocated to Newark, NJ in 1956. She had a long career as a telephone and long-distance operator, retiring from New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in 1991. She also served as vice president, supervisor and clerk for the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Mrs. Howerton was a member of Union County Baptist Church in Clark, NJ before relocating to Virginia, where she attended St. Mark Baptist Church. She loved taking care of her family, cooking, and the Lord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Samuel Howerton; son, James Conway Howerton; sisters, Bernell W. King, Ernestine Williams Pryor and brother, Shelton Walter Williams, Jr. Cherishing her memories are her daughter, Janice Marie Williams of Union, NJ; granddaughter, Tabetha Simmons Higgins of Snellville, GA; six great-grandchildren; sister, Rebecca Williams (Robert) of NC; three sisters-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the chapel of C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Glenn Faulkner officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery, Buffalo Junction, VA. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, seating will be limited, and a mask will be required for all viewings and services. We ask that you adhere to all guidelines, and practice social distancing. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
