Mr. Richard Lindburg Carter, 89, of Vinton and formerly of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton, VA. Mr. Carter was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on July 11, 1929 to the late Timothy and Edna Carter. He was educated in the Mecklenburg County School System, and was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA. Mr. Carter was a retired clerk for the U. S. Postal Service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Robert, and Timothy, Jr., and three sisters, Rosa, Cora and May. He leaves not to mourn his passing, but to treasure many loving memories his siblings, Rev. Willie Lee Carter, Sr. (Lucy) and Geneva Carter-Wilson, and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Richard L. Carter will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dennis King officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery, Skipwith, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
