Mrs. Shirley Sands Hester, 80, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Keysville, VA. Mrs. Hester was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on December 3, 1940 to the late Willie Frank and Hattie Bell Sands. She was a graduate of West End High School in Skipwith, VA, and formerly employed by Hampco Apparel. Mrs. Hester was a dedicated member of Greater Union Baptist Church in Chase City; while there she sang with the Gospel Traveliers, led the youth program and later served on the missionary circle. She was an avid reader. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her sisters, Evangeline Pulliam, Bettye Jean Crutchfield and Geneva Tucker, and her brothers, Willie James and John Henry Sands. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, Joseph P. Hester; daughters, Marsha Terrell and Bonita Hester; sons, Brian “Keith” Hester (Debra) and Michael Hester (Wendell); grandchildren, Aisha, Khalilah, Samirah, LeCedric, Nadiyah, Khadijah, Jomian, Desmond, Darius and Markese; great-grandchildren, Malik, Kamira, Iyanna, Leo and Isaac; aunt, Mattie Odemns, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Sands Hester will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Linda Goode officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
