Mrs. Verlean Lawrence Mickey, 81, of Drakes Branch, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Centra Southside Community Hospital, Farmville, VA. Mrs. Mickey was born in Shelby, NC January 27, 1937 to the late Arlisher and Katie Kathleen Griffin Lawrence. She received her education in the Mecklenburg County school system, and was a member of New Rehoboth Baptist Church, Keysville, VA where she served as church mother and sang on the choir. Mrs. Mickey was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mickey was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Lee Mickey, Sr. and three brothers, Arlisher, Jr., Randall Bert and Will Henry Lawrence. She leaves to cherish her loving memories three sons, Marshall Lee Mickey (Wanda) of Red Oak, VA, William H. Mickey (Janice) of South Boston, VA and James R. Mickey (Linda) of Chase City, VA; two daughters, Mary Reavis of Chase City, VA and Grindl Staten (Dennis) of Drakes Branch, VA; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one brother, James Lawrence of Keysville, VA; four sisters, Katherine Watson (Daniel), Ellen Watson (John) all of Chase City, VA, Betty Jones of South Hill, VA and Pauline Lawrence of Drakes Branch, VA; one aunt, Naomi Griffin of Lawndale, NC, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Verlean Lawrence Mickey will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. John Craighead officiating. Burial will follow in New Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery, Keysville, VA. Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P. M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
