Mrs. Vernie Mae Osborne, 101, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Osborne was born in Shelby, NC on April 14, 1915 to the late Mark and Laura Howard Hamilton. She received her early education in the schools of North Carolina, and was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church. Mrs. Osborne was a homemaker who enjoyed puzzle books, fishing and cooking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Osborne, one son, Warren G. Osborne; two daughters, Vernie Osborne and Eula Skipwith; two sisters, Kathleen Foster and Lucille Hamilton and three brothers, Floyd, James and T. C. Hamilton. Cherishing her memories are four sons, Billy Osborne of South Hill, VA, James Osborne of Skipwith, VA, Thomas Osborne of Chase City, VA and Joseph Osborne of Richmond, VA; four daughters, Essie Brown of Washington, D.C., Alice Burton of Chase City, VA and Betty Puryear and Peggy Spearman both of Newport News, VA; numerous grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Hamilton of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Macie Lavan of Hickory, NC and Evelyn Hamilton of Brooklyn, NY and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Vernie Mae Osborne will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Willie L. Carter, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
