Wilkey Pernell Mosley, Jr.

Wilkey Pernell Mosley, Jr., 65, passed away on March 12, 2018 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, VA. Known to everyone as “Smokey,” he was born on June 10, 1952 in Chase City, VA and was the youngest child of the late Wilkey Pernell Mosley, Sr. and Frances Hudley Mosley. Wilkey attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools, graduating in 1970 from Bluestone Senior High School in Skipwith, VA. He was a valued employee at Burlington Industries, working as a certified Waste Water Treatment Operator until its closure in 2006. He was a member of Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church and the R. C. Yancey Mason Lodge #284, where he served as Past Master. An avid reader, Wilkey also had numerous hobbies, including an addiction to New York Times crossword puzzles and playing computer solitaire. He was also a passionate college basketball fan. Wilkey cared about people and causes that were near and dear to his heart, and he contributed to many charitable organizations. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald C. Mosley. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Stephanie M. Johnson of Chester, VA and Samantha T. Mosley of Moseley, VA; sons, Steven K. Hargrove of Boydton, VA and Wilbur Hargrove (Jacqueline) of Huntington, WV; grandchildren, Davidallen Johnson V, Jada Mosley, Kaliyah Hargrove, Reagan Alaynna Hargrove, Donte Deshawn Newsome, Jr. and Raekwon Harris; sisters, Jean M. Winn of South Hill, VA and Linda Mosley Gordon of Occoquan, VA, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Wilkey Pernell Mosley, Jr. will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Willie L. Carter, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Virginia Powell, 5090 Hwy 47, Chase City, VA on Thursday evening and Friday (March 15 & 16). Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
