Annie Sue Holloway Holmes

Mrs. Annie Sue Holloway Holmes, 98, of Meherrin, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 while in the care of Centra Southside Hospital in Farmville, VA. Mrs. Holmes was born in Traffic, VA on November 14, 1922 to the late George Holloway, Sr. and Annie McCormick Holloway. She was a graduate of Lunenburg Training School in Lunenburg County, VA, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Victoria, VA. She furthered her education, earning her Bachelors from North Carolina College for Negroes. Mrs. Holmes was a celebrated educator with a career spanning 40 years with Lunenburg County. She worked in many capacities, as a teacher, principal and guidance counselor. Mrs. Holmes had numerous community, civic and professional affiliations. She was a devoted supporter of the Bluestone-Harmony Baptist Convention, never missing an annual event. In her spare time, she enjoyed viewing sports events and bible study. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Junious Holmes, and three brothers, George, Dwight and Wesley. She leaves not to mourn her passing, but to honor her legacy a brother-in-law, sister-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, her devoted church family, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services with limited seating for Mrs. Annie H. Holmes will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. William Moore, III officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Victoria, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. A mask is required for all viewings and services. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
