Carolyn Olivia Mangum Downey

Mrs. Carolyn Olivia Mangum Downey, 69, of Durham, NC entered eternal rest Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC. Mrs. Downey was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia November 23, 1943 the daughter of the late Roy “Pikey” Mangum and Louise Mangum. She attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County and graduated from West End High School. She participated in various sports and activities including softball and gymnastics. She was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Clarksville, Virginia and was previously employed for Nortel Networks, went to nursing school and was the recipient of the highest academic honors. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Downey; three sisters and four brothers. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of 51 years, David Downey Jr.; one son, Derrick Downey; one step-son, Raymond Stokes; one daughter, Misha Mack; two granddaughters, Kamesha Downey and Chante Downey; three great-grandkids, Cameron Daishaun Killett, Jaslynn Olivia Downey and Carter Amir Watson; one brother, Milo Mangum (Hazel) and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Mangum Downey will be conducted 12:00 Noon Monday, January 21, 2013 at the chapel of C.H. Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Watkins, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Clarksville, VA. Viewing will be Sunday from 12:00 until 6:00 P.M.  and the family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 A.M. until service time.  Arrangements are by C.H.
