Deacon Curtis Harris, 83, of Saxe, VA departed this life on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at his residence.
Deacon Harris was born April 27, 1942 in Saxe, VA to the late Daisy Harris and Violet Lambert, one of nine siblings. He joined Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age where he served as a Deacon. He attended Central High School and was previously employed by Burlington Industries in Drakes Branch and Jackson Motor Company in Chase City. Deacon Harris was the owner and operator of Harris Body Shop where he prospered and developed an excellent reputation among the community for 39 years until retirement. Curtis loved singing, fishing, barbecuing on the grill, and going to the drag races.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Darlene Mitter; brothers, Sherman, David, Samuel and Lorenzo; and sisters, Leelva, Marie and Ezie.
He leaves to cherish his memories three children, Rev. Marvin C. Harris (Brenda), Angela R. Harris and Bryon K. Harris (Laura); twelve grandchildren, Christy, Stephanie, Cadeisha, Banetra, Danielle, Daniel, Jeremy, Kaprisha, Cierra, Lakeisha, Lyric, and Adam; one loving sister, Mary Harris Green; two best friends, Joe Louis Saunders and Eugene Bell; his caretaker that was more like a daughter, Rev. Loretta Bailey (Charles), and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral Services for Deacon Curtis Henry Harris will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Drakes Branch, VA with Rev. Marvin Harris, delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M.
Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
