Dueward (Dewey) Rivers Edwards, Jr.

Mr. Dueward (Dewey) Rivers Edwards, Jr., of Clarksville, Virginia, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, passed away in his home on June 22, 2025 after a lengthy illness. Dewey was born on May 28, 1959 in Vance County to Dueward Rivers Edwards and Merle Medlin Edwards.

Dewey was preceded in death by his loving parents. Surviving are his daughter Whitney Edwards of Creedmoor. Dewey was blessed with two grandsons, Aaron Lee Edwards and Bryant Rivers Hartman. Dewey is also survived by his three sisters: Sandra Edwards of Creedmoor, Edna Atwater of Indian Beach and Betsy Faucette (Jeff) of Creedmoor. Cindy Rice of the home, his long-time companion, who provided loving and compassionate care throughout his lengthy illness.

Early in life, Dewey worked alongside his father at Edwards Brim Chevrolet, later taking the helm as owner. Known for his integrity and warm manner, Dewey carried the family name with pride before retiring from the dealership to pursue his true calling, which was guiding others to the joy he found on the water.

With rod in hand and heart wide open, Dewey founded Buggs Island Guide Service where he became a trusted companion to countless fisherman. Known among his fishing friends as “Yogi” he had a gift for finding the fish and a greater gift for turning strangers into lifelong friends. His boat was more than a vessel-it was a haven for stories, laughter, generosity and making memories of a lifetime.

In the early 90’s Dewey never missed a Duke Basketball Game. Dewey was at every tip-off, final fours and buzzer beaters cheering the Duke Blue Devils on.

Dewey’s celebration of life will be conducted at Sossaman Funeral Home, Creedmoor, NC on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to Cedar Grove Baptist Church #2, 212 Church Rd., Clarksville, VA 23927.
