Floyd William Simmons

Mr. Floyd William Simmons, 87, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation, Keysville, VA. Mr. Simmons was born in Bronxville, NY January 23, 1932 to the late Edward and Martha Crews Simmons. He attended Saunders Technical Trade High School in Yonkers, NY and was a veteran of the United States Army. While living in New York he attended Community Baptist Church, and upon relocating to Chase City he joined Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Simmons was employed for many years as a construction worker. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by an aunt, Elvira Kelly. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Mattie Wright Simmons of Chase City, VA; one daughter, Stephanie Simmons of Henderson, NC; six sons, Martin Simmons, Sr. of New York, NY, Damian Williams of Maryland, Martin Simmons, Jr. of Danville, VA, Lamonta Simmons of Richmond, VA, Shakeem Simmons of Petersburg, VA and Robert Frazier of Chase City, VA; two step-sons, James Goins of Charlotte, NC and Roland Goins of Florida; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; one sister, Elsie Simmons of New York, three sisters-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Floyd William Simmons will be conducted 12:00 Noon Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA with Evangelist Shirley Williams delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Victoria, VA. Public viewing will begin 10:00 AM Wednesday morning with the family receiving friends from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
