Hattie Jane Day

Mrs. Hattie Jane Downey Day, 84, of Nelson, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Day was born in Granville County, NC to the late Samuel and Mary Royster Downey. She attended the schools of Granville County, NC, and was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church in Oxford, NC. Mrs. Day was a former employee of Russell Stover Candies. She was an avid basketball fan, enjoyed word search puzzles, and was a Rummikub Champion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Oliver Day; two brothers, Davie and Samuel Downey, Jr., and two sisters, Effie Satterwhite and Lucy Downey. Cherishing her memories are one son, Lawrence Edward Day (Carolyn) of Nelson, VA; three sisters, Wilma Howard of Oxford, NC, and Marie Satterwhite and Margaret Brown both of Baltimore, MD; one brother, John Albert Downey of Durham, NC; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Downey of Oxford, NC and Lillian Downey of Durham, NC, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Jane Downey Day will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Wharton Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, Nelson, VA with Rev. Glenn Faulkner delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H.
