Mr. Herman William Blackwell, Sr. 86,of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston. Mr. Blackwell was born on April 8, 1925, to Dewey and Della Smith Blackwell in Chase City, Virginia. He was educated at Thyne Institute in Chase City and at an early age, was baptized and joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was ordained as Deacon on March 17, 1985, and served until his health failed. Mr. Blackwell worked at Jonbil Manufacturing Company for 10 years and retired from Burlington Industries in 1987. He also drove a car for Mecklenburg County Public Schools for seven years. As a sideline, for many years, he did work with his tractor, better known as “the cash machine.” He was a World War II Army veteran. Cherishing his memories are, two sons, Herman, Jr. (Perscilla) of Clarksville and Clarence (Mary) of Chase City; four daughters, Bettye Timberlake (Al) of Durham, NC, Katherine Murray (John) of Irvington, NJ, Pauline Keeton (Joseph) of Chase City, and Brenda of Newport News; nine grandsons; three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; one devoted nephew; and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Herman W. Blackwell Sr. will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. Ricky A. Lee, officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presby. Ch. Cemetery. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA
