Mr. James Pinckney, Jr., 76, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Wonder City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Hopewell, VA.
Mr. Pinckney was born in Sumter, SC to the late James Pinckney, Sr. and Margaret Snow Pinckney. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from High School where he served with distinction as a Corporal in the Vietnam War and was awarded several exceptional Medals of Honor, including a Purple Heart, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Rifle Marksman Qualification Badge. He relocated to Chase City in the 1970’s and worked at Jonbil Apparel, Southland Mulch Company, and retired from Georgia Pacific (US Plywood) in South Boston, Virginia. Mr. Pinckney was a member of the VFW and the Phi Groove Phi Fraternity. James loved fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking out, playing cards, horseshoes, and caring for all of his farm animals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Pinckney and Moses Pinckney, and daughter, Rhonda Vedette Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Diane Pinckney; daughters, Darlene Kimberly Darden, and Diana Denise Pinckney; grandchildren, Everett Thomas, Vanessa Traynham, Chelsie Pinckney, Rayven Pinckney, Demitri Pinckney, Emya Terry, Essence Pinckney, and Eliyana Robertson; 12 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; five sisters, Lillian Monk, Maggie Pinckney, Sarah Pinckney, Delores Pinckney-Caldwell, and Margie Pinckney all of Newark, NJ; one brother, Lewis (Tempie) Pinckney of Horatio, SC, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services for Mr. James Pinckney, Jr. will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 16, 2026 at Berean Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Marvin Harris officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will begin on Monday from 10:00 until 10:45 A.M. at the church.
