Joanne Bertha Scales

Mrs. Joanne Bertha Scales, 99, of Red Oak, VA entered eternal rest on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Chase City Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Scales was born in Dayton, OH on November 18, 1926 to the late Samuel and Sarah Moody Wilson. She attended Salem Baptist Church Elementary School and Central High School. She would later relocate to Bridgeport, CT where she retired as a seamstress and steam presser for Bridgeport Dry Cleaners & Laundry with 35 years of dedicated service. In 1994, Mrs. Scales relocated back to Red Oak and was reinstated with Salem Baptist Church where she served as an active and faithful member on the Pastor Aide Committee, Choirs and Missionary Board, Deaconess Board, Kitchen Committee and as Church Cleaner. She also worked part-time at Clarksville Cleaners. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, powerwalking and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Rob) Scales, and seven siblings.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her beloved 95-year-old sister, Polly, a host of nieces and nephews, other family members and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Joanne Bertha Scales will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA with Rev. Michael Williams delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will begin on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M. at the church.
