Judy Pearl Overbey

Mrs. Judy Pearl Morris Overbey, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 74.

Born in Granville County on April 6, 1951, Judy was the daughter of the late Clarence Shelton Morris Sr. and Pearl Tuck Morris. She was also lovingly raised by her stepmother, the late Thelma Overby Morris.

Judy was a hardworking woman who spent many years serving her community through her work at 4C Burlington Industries, Bowen's Mini Mart, and Country Corner. But her impact went far beyond her jobs—she was known affectionately as the “community grandmother.” Fiercely loyal, refreshingly honest, and endlessly supportive, Judy was the kind of person who would always have your back, no matter what.

She found joy in the simple things—sitting on her porch watching the birds, laughing with friends and family, and sharing her sharp wit and generous spirit with everyone around her.

Judy is survived by her loving daughters: Wendy O. Bowen (Dural), Crystal L. Overbey (Charles), and Patricia M. Tilley (Collin). She was a devoted grandmother to Agatha (Brandon), Darren, and Johnathan Bowen; Trey (Hannah), Cody (Mary), and Carlton (Izzy) Nester (and their father, Barry Nester); Jaycee, Caitlyn, Cayden Tilley, and Gracie.

She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Jink Overbey (Carylon); sisters-in-law, Drusilla Newton and Denise Morris; as well as 13 nieces and nephews, 23 great-nieces and nephews, and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Garnet Overbey; her parents and stepmother; her grandfather, Walter J. Morris; grandmother, Rosa F. Morris; brothers Rickey Shelton Morris and Clarence Shelton Morris Jr.; sister Virginia Dianne M. Lane; cherished best friend Mary Frances Griffin; and beloved granddaughter, Addisyn Tilley.

Her legacy of love, strength, and humor will live on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service  will be announced by the family at a later date.
