Mrs. Mabel Adams Newton, 90, of Richmond, VA formerly of Buffalo Junction, VA entered eternal rest Tuesday, August 7, 2007 in Richmond, VA.Mrs. Newton was born in Mecklenburg County, VA, February 21, 1917 to the late Robert and Mary Adams. She attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA and was an active member of Saint John Baptist Church until her health began to fail.Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie C. Newton Sr., three brothers, Walter Adams, William Adams and James Adams; two sisters, Virginia Adams and Agnes Adams.Cherishing her memories are four children, Helen Johnson and Mary Weaver both of Richmond, VA, Johnnie Newton Jr. of Newark, NJ and Marion Newton of Fredericksburg, VA; five grandchildren, Cynthia, Melvin (Tanaka), William, Mysohia and De Nard (Rita); nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Deacon Thomas Adams of Arlington, VA; two sisters-in-law, Ophelia Adams of Arlington, VA and Willie Adams of Richmond, VA; devoted friend, Inez Cole and caretaker, Emma Howell and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel A. Newton will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 12, 2007 at St. John Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Charles Sands, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 216 Fourth St. Clarksville, VA.
