Mary Ellen Chandler Newton

Mrs. Mary Ellen Chandler Newton, age 100, of Philadelphia, PA and formerly of Buffalo Junction, VA entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA. Mrs. Newton was born in Buffalo Junction, VA November 28, 1918 to the late James Edward, Sr. and Rosa Bell Kinton Chanlder. She attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA, and at an early age joined St. John Baptist Church in Buffalo Junction, VA. She later relocated to Philadelphia, PA where she managed her own retail store. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her husband, Stg. Lewis Newton; four brothers, Billy, James, Jr., Thomas and Charles Allen; and seven sisters, Ruth, Elizabeth, Annie Laura, Ella Jane, Ruby, Louise and Rebecca. Cherishing her memories are her nephew and caretaker, William Garland Chandler (Sherry) of Philadelphia, PA, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and caring friends. Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Chandler Newton will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Cherry Hill Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Dr. Linda E. Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the church. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
