Mary Esther Elam, 93, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
Born on December 10, 1932, in Chase City, VA, Esther was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur Elam and Belvia Ellis Elam. She received her education through the public schools of Mecklenburg County, VA. At an early age she accepted Christ as her savior and became a member of Finneywood Baptist Church. In the 1970s, Esther moved to Philadelphia, PA. She joined the Zion Baptist Church and remained a member for over fifty years. There she served as a member of the Chorliers, the Combined Choir, the Missionary Ministry, and the Memorial committee. She also gave her time and heart to the Food Bank. Esther retired from INA/CIGNA in the mid 1990’s and later became a seasonal Water Revenue Clerk for the City of Philadelphia.
Esther leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Carol Nesmith; niece, LaShond Harris; nephews, Donald (Angela) and Ronald Stackhouse, a host of great-nephews and great-nieces and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
