Melvin E. "Hot Shot" Panther

Mr. Melvin E. “Hotshot” Panther, 90, of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in Richmond, VA.

Mr. Panther was born in Mecklenburg County, VA February 13, 1936, to the late Cliff and Lucy Dickerson Panther. He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA, and Rehoboth Methodist Church in Boydton, VA. He was a former brick layer and stone mason. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to music.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Panther was preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel M. Panther; granddaughter, Bethany N. Panther; and his brothers, Henry and Wallace Panther.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Jean Poteat Panther of Boydton, VA; sons, David L. Smoot of Durham, NC and Alan Panther (Joyce) of Boydton, VA; two grandchildren, Abigail and Rachel; his sisters, Ruby Ashworth of South Hill, VA and Remonia Elderbloot of Sandston, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined.
