Msg Melvin Odell Evans

Master Sergeant Melvin O. Evans, Sr. of Richmond, VA formally of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at CJW Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond, VA. MSG Evans was born in Boydton, VA March 14, 1951 to Bessie L. Evans and the late Sidney Allen Evans. He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA and at an early age joined Jerusalem Temple United Holy Church in Boydton, VA. After graduation, he joined the U. S. Army, where he proudly served for over 21 years, retiring with an Honorable Discharge with numerous metals and honors. He was formerly employed by Mecklenburg Corrections Center as a security officer. Cherishing his memories are his devoted wife, Elder Dr. JoAnne Ellis Evans; three children, Jeffery, Melvin, Jr. (Tracy) and Dawn Goode (Derrick, Sr.); three stepsons, Willie Morton, Jr., Jason Morton and Anthony; seven grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; his mother, Bessie L.  Evans; three sisters, Willie Mae Richardson, Magdalene Bowens and Doris Allen (Elder Charles); father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Mary Ellis of Albany, NY; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two aunts and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Master Sergeant Melvin O. Evans, Sr. will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Jerusalem Temple United Holy Church, Boydton, VA with Elder Charles D. Allen delivering the eulogy. Burial will commence 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 20th at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 12:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Clarksville, VA.
