Mrs. Nettie Mae Hayes, 91, of Baltimore, MD and formerly of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, June 7, 2010 in Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Hayes was born December 20, 1918 in Mecklenburg County to the late Jennie and Eddie Hayes. She received her education in the Mecklenburg County School system. Mrs. Hayes was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church where she was active in the Senior Choir, Missionary ministry, Sunday school, and was Mother of the Church for numerous years. In addition to her church activities, she volunteered in the area schools, Parent Teachers Association and the American Red Cross. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and family activities. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Edward B. Hayes, Jr., a son Tyree, and granddaughter Cassandra. Cherishing her memories are two sons, Edward III (Brenda) of Mechanicsville, VA, Thomas (Lottie) of Chase City, VA; two daughters, Joyce Williams (Andrew) of Baltimore, MD, Jane Manzel Dancy (Joseph) of North Canton, OH; six grandchildren Stephanie, Thomas, Jr., Khida Moore (Terrell), LaDonna, Eddie IV, and Matthew; one great-grandson, Brandon; three sisters, Roseann Bradley, Newvell Gilliard, and Alice Evans (David) all of Newark, NJ; one brother, John T. (Helen) of Newark, NJ; three sisters-in-law; Lois Hayes Howerton of Hyattsville, MD, Ruth, and Teresa, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie H. Hayes will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 12, 2010 at St. Luke Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with Rev. H. F. Peace officiating and Rev. Tyrone Pulliam delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in church cemetery. The family will recieve friends Saturday from 12:00 Noon unitl service time. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
