Mr. Robert Lee Skipwith, 82, of Alexandria, VA and formerly of Buffalo Junction, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Son of the late George and Louise Jones Skipwith, Robert was born on September 17,1943, in Buffalo Junction. He was the third of six children. At an early age, Robert was baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Buffalo Junction. He attended public school and graduated from West End High School in Clarksville, VA. He was an accomplished student who excelled in math and science and won various awards at regional conferences. He was a member of the basketball team and played the saxophone and percussion in the school's band. He served honorably in the Army, achieving the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. Robert is a veteran of the Vietnam War and Dominican Republic Civil War.

Following military service, Robert relocated from Virginia to Harvey, Illinois. He worked for Walgreens Drug Company, where he advanced to a Managerial position with the company. He worked for eight years as a manager at Walgreens. Later, the family launched and established the community's first African American owned drug store which was Regal Drugstore. They served the community for the next 18 years.

In his spare time, Robert enjoyed watching his beloved Chicago Bears and playing one of his favorite sports, golf. Robert spent the last years of his life surrounded by his family and siblings in Northern Virginia.

He is survived by his children, LaShawn Wainwright (Mark) and Robert Skipwith (Veary); five grandchildren, Noah (Grace), Anna, Luke, Madeleine and Sophie; sisters, Jean Hargrove, and Nancy Smackum (Joseph); brothers, Jimmie Skipwith (The Honorable Cheryl Allen), George Alexander Skipwith (Gloria) and William Skipwith; Robert’s former spouse, Delores Skipwith Dodd, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the chapel of Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia Court House, VA. Burial with military honors will follow.
