Rufus Edward Gregory

Mr. Rufus Edward Gregory, 82, of Harpers Ferry, WV and formerly of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at his son's residence in Chester, VA.

Mr. Gregory was born in Clarksville, VA on May 27, 1943, to the late Rev. Harrison Gregory, Sr. and Inez (Boswell) Gregory. He attended Delaware State University, where he studied music and worked with his uncle in the funeral business. He joined the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War and served his country honorably. He married Beatrice Chandler and together they welcomed a son, Gregg. Following his time in the service he returned to the States and lived in New Jersey. In 1976, he married Nancy Beske; to this union was born, Alexis and Colin. Mr. Gregory worked diligently and moved up through Sandoz Corp., which later became Clariant. This career brought the family to Charlotte, NC, where he joined Living Saviour Lutheran Church. He briefly sang in the choir, served on numerous committees, participated in men’s Bible study, and even helped as janitor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Gregory; and his sister, Merlene (Gregory) Pernell.

He leaves to cherish his memories three children, Gregg Gregory, Alexis Weaver (Craig), and Colin Gregory (Rachel); seven grandchildren and one great grandson; three siblings, Margaret Moody, Marjorie Banks, and Harrison Gregory, Jr., and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Rufus Edward Gregory will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Sunday, August 3, 2025 at the chapel of C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Buffalo Junction VA. Burial with military honors will follow at 3:00 P.M. on Monday at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews, NC. Public viewing for family and friends will begin on Sunday from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M.
