Vera Terry Garner

Ms. Vera Lee Terry Garner, 78, of Clarksville, VA and formerly of Roxboro, NC, entered eternal rest on Monday, September 21, 2026 at the South Boston Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Ms. Garner, affectionately known as “Fig”, was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on July 2, 1948, to the late Marion M. Terry, Sr. and Eliza Bell Terry. At an early age she joined Antioch United Church of Christ, Townsville, NC and graduated from West End High School in Skipwith, VA. Ms. Garner was employed in textile and retail for many years. Vera was known for her generous spirit and in her spare time enjoyed shopping, listening to gospel music, traveling to new places and reading.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Jack” Garner; sister, Lola Laney; and brothers, Chester Terry and Marion Terry, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two loving daughters, Lisa McClure (Bobby) of Clarksville, VA, and Stacey Lumpkin of Fredericksburg, VA; four grandchildren, Krystle (Carldale), Jade, Demarco, and Jewel; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Evonnie Gbadebo; two brothers, Fred “Bo” Terry and Torres “Cente” Terry (Dorita); her previous spouse and close friend, James L. Speed, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 25, 2026 at Antioch United Church of Christ, Townsville, NC with Rev. Andy Hargrove, officiating.
